New Precautions for Viking Sports Programs due to the COVID-19 Pandemic
Updated as of 01/01/2021
New Protocols, Procedures, and Precautions*
*the following list is a brief overview of just some of the new protocols, procedures, and precautions Viking has been using for all programs. As the year progresses, some of these protocols may change. These changes may occur due to new guidance from the health department or we may determine better operation procedures as the camp season progresses. This is all new to us, and we hope you can bare with us, and thank you for you patience.
- All children, parents and staff must wear masks at all times, except when eating or drinking according to the current guidelines set forth by the DPH.
- For Camp: Drop Off and Pick Up will be done from the car. At Drop Off, a Health Care Supervisor will perform a quick screening of each camper including a temperature check with a contactless thermometer and ask a series of COVID related questions to the parent/guardian
- Only one parent/guardian can be at Drop Off and Pick Up.
- Parents and staff must sign written attestations daily regarding any household contacts with COVID-19, symptoms (e.g., fever, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, loss of smell or taste, or diarrhea), or if they have given children medicine to lower a fever.
- All staff will go through a health screening when arriving to camp prior to any camper arrivals. Each staff member will have their temperature checked with a contactless thermometer and be asked a series of COVID related questions
- Health Checks will be taken periodically during the day
- All Health Check and Temperature Checks will be recorded and maintained on file
- All groups will be less than 12 including staff
- All staff will receive special COVID health and cleaning training
- Social Distancing will be practiced at ALL times, including activities
- Each group will have their own assigned indoor space for the entire week in the event of inclement weather or excessive heat
- Equipment will NOT be shared between groups and will be disinfected after each use
- Hand washing and hand sanitizing will be required multiple times throughout the day
- Campers must have written parent/guardian permission to use hand sanitizer
- Campers must supply their own masks to be worn at all times
Here’s what you need to know about Viking Sports’s summer camps this year (2021):
Summer 2021 is on! While our hope this summer is to be able to run summer camp as normal. Here are our policies from Summer 2020 for reference:
- Groups will be no larger than twelve (12) people, including coaches.
- Two to three (3) coaches will be assigned to each group, leaving room for nine to ten (9 – 10) children to register per week per group, with four (4) groups in total.
- Groups will be separated out based on age, as usual for our Brookline camps, as follows:
- Bruins: Ages 5 – 6
- Red Sox: Ages 7 – 8
- Celtics: Ages 9 – 10
- Patriots: Ages 11 – 13
- Therefore, each week of camp will be capped at a total of one hundred (100) campers.
- Each group will stay with their designated coaches and peer-campers for the entire day of camp. No mixing will be allowed, even among siblings.
- This is for the safety of all of our campers and staff members. It is very important that all campers, parents, and staff members respect this rule at all times.
- Due to the need to keep age groups separated and not allow intermixing between groups, we will not be offering late pick-up and early drop-off options to our camps, as we usually do.
- We apologize in advance for the inconvenience this causes. Please remember that we are all in this together, and all of us here at Viking Sports are doing everything we can to make this work right now, considering all national, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines.
- We will, however, be offering an “extended day” option, which will cost $195 extra to add to any week of camp and will cover both before- and after-care.
- Unfortunately, this option will only be available to children ages seven (7) and up, due to the necessary coach-to-camper ratios.
- Each child and staff member’s temperature will need to be taken prior to stepping onto the field each day. We will have a private booth set up in order to facilitate this using contactless thermometers. A ten-question standardized survey will also be administered to the child at this time, asking the child about any symptoms or known exposure within the last twenty-four (24) hours.
- All coaches will be “COVID-19 Trained.” They will learn how to recognize the symptoms of the novel coronavirus, proper precautions to take, reasons behind the new system, and what to do in the event of exposure to the virus.
- Additionally, we will have two (2) designated “healthcare supervisors” on staff at all times. These staff members will not be assigned to any specific group, and will oversee that all proper measures are being taken to prevent the contraction and spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19 virus).
- If a child shows any symptoms of the virus during camp, that child will be quarantined with one of these staff members until a parent is able to pick the child up from camp.
- Additionally, all staff members have been instructed not to come to work if they feel any symptoms of illness at all for any reason. The same rule goes for all campers, out of respect for one another.
- Additionally, we will have two (2) designated “healthcare supervisors” on staff at all times. These staff members will not be assigned to any specific group, and will oversee that all proper measures are being taken to prevent the contraction and spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19 virus).
